About this book

Sixty real places in Japan's snow country — and every one of them ready to color.

This book travels the deep-winter north, from the drift ice off Abashiri and the penguin parade at Asahiyama Zoo to the candle-lit kamakura snow huts of Yokote and Yunishigawa. Every stop is a real place in its real winter: Sapporo's giant snow statues, the red-brick Akarenga under snow, Hirosaki and Matsumoto castles in white, the snow monsters of Mount Moriyoshi, cranes dancing on the Tsurui snowfields, monkeys soaking in Jigokudani's hot spring, and the yukitsuri rope fans protecting Kenrokuen's pines.

Every subject appears as a two-page spread: on one side, a full-color photo guide with a short, fascinating story — the place's history, its festivals, its food, and exactly how to color it — and on the other, a detailed coloring page of the very same view, converted from the real photograph so the scene you color is the scene itself. A guide at the front shows you how to print only the coloring pages at home and save your color ink.

Inside you will find: • Hokkaido in deep winter — Otaru's Snow Light Path, Sapporo Snow Festival, drift ice, frozen lakes and crane fields • Tohoku's great winter festivals — Enburi, Namahage, kamakura huts, snow lantern festivals and the Tachineputa giants • Castles, temples and old towns under snow — Hirosaki, Matsumoto, Tsuruga, Kenrokuen and the kura storehouses of Kitakata and Sakata • The high snow country of Shinetsu and Hokuriku — snow monkeys, the God's Crossing of Lake Suwa, wasabi fields, sankyoson farmsteads and the Tateyama wall across the bay • 60 full-color photo guides with the story of each place (about 84–103 words each) • None of these sixty subjects appeared in our previous Japan coloring books

Sixty winters, one long journey through the snow country — bring pencils, and take your time.
