About this book
Sixty real Japanese old towns and historic streets — and every one of them ready to color.
This book walks the old Japan that still survives: the fireproof warehouse rows of Kawagoe and Kurashiki, raised after great fires in black tile and white plaster; the geisha lanes of Gion and Kanazawa, glowing at dusk; samurai quarters in Hagi, Chiran and Matsue, all stone walls, hedges and quiet water; the boat houses of Ine standing in the sea itself; a whole town roofed in bengara red at Fukiya; indigo streets in Arimatsu and Wakimachi; and at the journey's end, the coral-sand lanes and red-tile roofs of Taketomi Island.
Every subject appears as a two-page spread: on one side, a full-color photo guide with a short, fascinating story — how the street grew rich, what its walls and roofs are made of, and what to look for while you color — and on the other, a detailed coloring page of the very same view, converted from the real photograph so the street you color is the street itself. A guide at the front shows you how to print only the coloring pages at home and save your color ink.
Inside you will find: • Hokkaido and Tohoku — Hakodate's harbour slopes, Otaru's merchant street, the samurai lanes of Hirosaki and the snow arcade of Kuroishi • Castle towns and post towns — Kawagoe, Takayama, Kanazawa, Seki-juku, Imaicho and Kurashiki • Port towns and water towns — Sawara, Omihachiman, Ine, Mitarai, Yanagawa and Shirakawa-go's thatched valley • Kyoto and the south — Gion, Pontocho, Matsue, Hagi, Chiran, and the Ryukyu lanes of Naha and Taketomi • 60 full-color photo guides with the story of each street (about 80–120 words each) • None of these sixty subjects appeared in our previous Japan coloring books
Sixty streets, one long walk through old Japan — bring pencils, and take your time.
