About this book

Sixty real Japanese lighthouses — and every one of them ready to color.

This book sails the whole edge of Japan: the red-and-white bands of Cape Noshappu under a Hokkaido sunset; Japan's easternmost light at Cape Nosappu, first to see the morning sun; the wind-hammered white tower of Cape Erimo; Kannonzaki, where Japan's lighthouse age began in 1869; the tallest lighthouse in the country at Izumo Hinomisaki; the lonely banded palace of Mizunokojima standing in the open strait; Sata Misaki at the southern tip of Kyushu; and the last light of Japan at Irizaki on Yonaguni, beyond which there is nothing but ocean.

Every subject appears as a two-page spread: on one side, a full-color photo guide with a short, fascinating story — the tower's stripes and shape, the sea it guards, and what to look for while you color — and on the other, a detailed coloring page of the very same view, converted from the real photograph so the tower you color is the lighthouse itself. A guide at the front shows you how to print only the coloring pages at home and save your color ink.

Inside you will find: • Hokkaido and Tohoku — Noshappu, Nosappu, Erimo, Esan, Shiriyazaki with its Kandachime horses, Nyudosaki and Kinkasan • The gates of Tokyo Bay and the Pacific capes — Kannonzaki, Tsurugisaki, Sunozaki, Iioka, Mikomotojima and Omaezaki • The Sea of Japan shore and the Inland Sea — Kyogamisaki, Rokkosaki on the Noto tip, Mihonoseki, Ogijima and Mutsurejima • Kyushu and the southern islands — Satamisaki, Yakushima, Tanegashima, Hennazaki, Ikema, Hateruma and Irizaki on Yonaguni • 60 full-color photo guides with the story of each lighthouse (about 80–120 words each) • None of these sixty subjects appeared in our previous Japan coloring books

Sixty lighthouses, one long voyage along Japan's edge — bring pencils, and take your time.
