About this book
Sixty real lakes, marshes and wetlands of Japan — the still waters, each one ready to color.
Other coloring books give you scenery invented around a lake. This book colors the lakes themselves, in their real views: the round caldera mirror of Lake Toya with its island of lava domes, the red glasswort shore of brackish Lake Notoro, the boardwalk crossing the great high marsh of Ozegahara, the cobalt spring water of Kaminoko Pond, the sunken "ghost ship" of Lake Nakaumi, the crater lake of Onami — the highest in Japan — and the mangrove boardwalk of Manko Wetland in Okinawa.
Every subject appears as a two-page spread: on one side, a full-color guide — a photograph of the place today — with a short story of the lake (how the volcano, the ice or the sea made it, what lives in and around its water, and exactly how to color it); on the other side, a detailed coloring page of the very same view, converted from the real photograph so the scene you color is the scene itself.
Inside you will find: • Hokkaido, the lake country — Toya and Kussharo calderas, the Saroma and Notoro lagoons behind the Okhotsk Sea, crane-haunted Lake Furen under a Steller's sea eagle, the cotton-grass fields of Kiritappu Wetland, and the railway crossing Bekanbeushi Marsh • Tohoku — the brackish expanse of Lake Jusan, cone-guarded Lake Usori, the reclaimed below-sea-level fields of Hachirogata, goose-filled Lake Izunuma, and the 1888 eruption lakes of Urabandai, Hibara and Akimoto, plus hidden caldera Lake Numazawa • The great marshes and the Kanto–Chubu lakes — Ozegahara and Senjogahara, the two famous high marshes; Kasumigaura's quieter sister Lake Kitaura; reed-fringed Lake Hinuma; Fuji-reflecting Lake Tanuki and Lake Shoji; the deep blue of Lake Motosu; mirror-calm Lake Aoki; alpine Happo Pond under the Hakuba peaks; and the emerald reservoir of Lake Kurobe beneath its great dam • Hokuriku, Kansai and the Japan Sea — Kahokugata's tidal gate, Shibayama Lagoon, the Omi Maiko swimming shore of Lake Biwa, still Lake Yogo, sunset Lake Shinji, and Lake Nakaumi with its famous wreck • Shikoku, Kyushu and Okinawa — Sameura, "Shikoku's water jar"; the Amagi gorge reservoir of Lake Kanogawa; misty Lake Kinrin at Yufuin; rowing-lake Ezu in Kumamoto; the Kirishima crater lakes Onami and Unagi; tea-field Lake Imuta; and the mangrove tides of Manko Wetland • 60 full-color guides with the story of each lake or marsh (88–112 words each) • None of these sixty subjects appeared in our previous Japan coloring books
Sixty still waters that volcanoes, ice, rivers and the sea took thousands of years to make — bring pencils, and take your time.
