The Cat at Platform Zero Vol.35

About this book

（シリーズ共通の説明文に本巻の軸を差し替えて使用する） > Thirty-five volumes in, the valley turns at last to the one text every story has been timed by: the green timetable board on the platform wall at Hoshizaki Station — the printed promise the whole valley sets its clocks, its weddings, its hospital visits and its griefs by. Over one whole year, from December to November, a retired caretaker takes the board's first line as his orders, a grandmother keeps her family's time under one keeping, a schoolboy asks to be taught the board everyone else reads as if by birth, a father meets every train his daughter might be on, and a company clerk must decide what a known error is worth — while the stationmaster learns the year's quiet discipline: to post nothing that is not true, and to correct, in public, whatever has ceased to be. Twelve complete, gentle stories about the posted time, and our relations with it.
